The Chair of Intercultural Communication, Linguodidactics, Pedagogical Technologies of Teaching and Education was formed on June 1, 2014, after the unification of the Chair of Pedagogics and the Chair of Theory and Methodology of Intercultural Communication Teaching.
Priority goals:
Innovatization of academic and methodological activity, increase of education quality;
Breakthrough in scientific and research work, creation of intellectual production, demanded in education;
Augmentation of publication activity of all the chair’s members.
The chair is headed by Nikolay Vasilievich Baryshnikov, Doctor of Pedagogic Sciences, Professor, Honorary Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation; outstanding worker of public education; active member of the Academy of Pedagogic and Social Sciences; active member of the International Academy of Pedagogic Education Sciences; holder of a French Order of Academic Palms.
N.V. Baryshnikov worked out new scientific directions in the methodology of foreign languages teaching: 1) ethnic linguodidacticts, which studies the problems of foreign languages teaching in conditions of ethnic diversity, multiculturalism and multilingualism; 2) multilinguodidactics, as didactics of multilingualism. N.V. Baryshnikov supervises a large-scale educational experiment on four foreign languages learning. N.V. Baryshnikov is an author of more than 150 scientific articles including “Foreign Languages Teaching: questions and answers”, “Methods of the Second Foreign Language Teaching at Middle School”, “What do You Think About It?” – practicum of oral communication in French for senior students of universities and departments of linguistics (co-author), “Professional Intercultural Communication” (monograph), “Fundamentals of Professional Intercultural Communication” (textbook).

Postgraduate studies on 13.00.01 – General Pedagogics, History of Pedagogics and Education have been active for almost 40 years since 1980.
On July 7, 1939, followed by the Decree of Council of People’s Commissars of RSFSR Pyatigorsk Pedagogic College was reorganized into Pedagogic and Teachers’ Institute as an independent higher education facility with three departments: physical and mathematical, historical, and department of Russian Language and Literature.
The administration of PSPI, directed by Vasiliy Tikhonovich Chekanov and his deputy for academic and scientific work Professor Vsevolod Aleksandrovich Vasilyev paid close attention to the teaching staff of the department and general chairs. A chair of Pedagogics and Psychology was one of the last chairs which functioned since the inception. In 1969 the chair was divided into two: chair of Pedagogics and Chair of Psychology.
In 2014 these two chairs were transformed into the Chair of Intercultural Communication, Linguodidactics, Pedagogic Technologies of Education and Teaching.

History of formation and development of scientific school 13.00.02 Theory and Methods of Education and Teaching (Foreign Languages):
Postgraduate studies in PSU on 13.00.02 Theory and Methods of Education and Teaching (foreign languages) have been functioning since 1969. That time postgraduate students were supervised by B.D. Lempert, head of the Chair of Methodology of Foreign Languages Teaching, Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences. After a long break, postgraduate studies resumed its activities when N.V. Baryshnikov came to the chair. Followed by his initiative, the postgraduate studies were formed from the ground in 1993. In 2003 the chair opened doctoral studies on 13.00.02 Theory and Methods of Education and Teaching (foreign languages). That period of time had successful results.

Former postgraduates and applicants are mainly creative persons, who have a perfect command of innovative mind categories. The postgraduate studies graduates teach a foreign language in higher education facilities of Moscow, Stavropol, Armavir, Eysk, Novorossiysk, Pyatigorsk, Nalchik, Makhachkala, Vladikavkaz, and other cities. Now lot of postgraduate studies graduates occupy high positions at PSU: Professor A.M. Akopyants, Doctor of Pedagogic Sciences, Director of the Institute of Foreign Languages and International Tourism, Associate Professor E.N. Pronchenko, Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, Director of IRGLIHT, Associate Professor E.G. Ten, Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, Deputy Director of IRGLIHT, Associate Professor M.A. Bodoni, Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences – Associate Professor at Kuban State University; Professor A.V. Vartanov, Prorector for the Development of innovative environment, commercialization of the intellectual activity results and regional cooperation, Associate Professor O.E. Ivanova, Candidate of Pedagogic Sciences, deputy Director of ITAM for multilingualism. Former postgraduate students became founders of new scientific and methodological schools, which carry out studies of timely problems of intercultural communication teaching, the formation of foreign language communicative competence in certain conditions, theoretical reasoning of rational methods of foreign languages and cultures teaching. Professor A.V. Vartanov heads his own scientific school, work out the conception of professional training of multilingualism teacher.
O.E. Ivanova studies the problems of teaching methods of several foreign languages at a time.
For almost 20 years the Chair has been organizing Lempert Readings, as an international scientific and methodological symposium, which is a significant achievement of the chair. The next Lempert Readings will take place on May 12-13, 2020. Materials of Lempert Readings are published as a collective monograph. The total publications amount to 350 printed sheets.
