Final Name of PSLU
On May 12th, 2016, Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University held the Conference of Academic Officers, representatives of other employees and students of PSLU. Final name of PSLU was the main issue to discuss at the conference. At the final stage of a new name and regulations affirmation, governmental agencies decided to discuss thoroughly this issue at all levels. The university team is grateful for such attention of the Minister of Education and Science of Russia, governor and authorities of Stavropol Krai, Plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in North Caucasus Federal Districts.
The participants laid a special emphasis on the sensitivity and overall record of the university achievements, its historical merits, its place and role in the higher school system of Russia, and international reputation. The conference participants and all university staff are very grateful to the Minister of Education and Science of Russia Dmitry Viktorovich Livanov for his support. A special word of thanks was said to the Governor of Stavropol Krai Vladimir Vladimirovich Vladimirov for his sincere participation and attention, for his position to create a multidisciplinary university on the basis of PSLU. And of course, the staff is grateful for attention and support of Plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in North Caucasus Federal District Sergey Alimovich Melikov. Their common coordinated position is hard to overestimate.
We remind that recent years the university has broadened the spectrum of educational programs and scientific activity. Now it trains students in 11 directions of secondary vocational education, 34 bachelor majors, 10 majors and 22 educational master’s programs, 10 majors and 21 postgraduate studies programs. The university grew up from a specialized “linguistic” into the multidisciplinary classic university. Along with this, the university keeps its competitive advantage, training unique graduates, who speak one or several foreign languages at high level apart from their profession.
Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University which has gained a perfect reputation during its history, beginning from Pyatigorsk State Pedagogic Institute, Pyatigorsk State Pedagogic Institute of Foreign Languages will continue its prospective development, remaining one of the leading institutions of Russia but now with a new name of Pyatigorsk State University.
The conference decided to file the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation a request to change the name of the university, and to introduce a new name into the University Regulations, which is now under the Ministry consideration.
