Meeting of the Participants of International Cultural and Educational “Global Understanding” Project in PSLU

On May 16, 2016 Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University carried out a meeting of the participants of International Cultural and Educational “Global Understanding” project with director of the “Global Partners in Education” project Jami Leibowitz and technical director of the project Biwu Yang, who represented University of East Carolina (Greenville, USA).

The Rector of PSLU Aleksandr Pavlovich Gorbunov received the delegation within the frameworks of the meeting.

The Head of image and information policy management, public relations and organizational issues Sergey Yuryevich Krasnov organized a tour around the university. After that, a working meeting of the International Cultural and Educational “Global Understanding” Project organizers took place. Yuriy Yuryevich Grankin, Prorector for Academic Policy, Education Quality Control and Informatization; Viktor Evgenyevich Mishin, the Head of International Relations Management and Educational Technologies; Yuliya Pavlovna Dmitrieva, the Head of Educational and Methodic Department; Aleksandr Ivanovich Sarana, director of the Center of Informational and Educational Technologies; Irina Valeryevna Boyazitova, the Manager of “Global Understanding” Project in PSLU, director of the Institute of Human Studies; Tatyana Aleksandrovna Shiryaeva, the Head of the Chair of English Language and Professional Communication, and others took part in the meeting.

The meeting of the participants of the International Cultural and Educational “Global Understanding” Project was organized in round table mode (moderator Professor of the Chair of English Language and Professional Communication Tatyana Shiryaeva), where the experience and prospects of Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University and University of East Caroline collaboration within the framework of the International Cultural and Educational “Global Partners in Education” Project was discussed.

The project’s manager Irina Boyazitova, greeting the participants focused attention on the fact that 2015 opened a new stage of collaboration with professional and pedagogic community of the USA, which allowed entering the higher level of educational and professional activity organization, by means of rich educational space creation, which would provide the experience of real intercultural interaction and formation of competencies in students, which would allow their readiness for intercultural communication in multicultural environment.

Assistant Professor of the Chair of English Language and Professional Communication Irina Viktorovna Zuyeva, Assistant Professor of the Chair of General and Pedagogic Psychology Margarita Lvovna Shapovalova, together with students from Institute of Human Studies showed the experience in “Global Understanding” project implementation.

Jami Leibowitz, director of the “Global Understanding” project, presented a report and showed a presentation, about the development stages of the project since 2004 with more than 60 partner universities from different countries. She was satisfied with the project implementation with the students of the Institute of Human Studies, and express readiness for further work with PSLU.

Summarizing the round table results, Professor Irina Boyazitova expressed appreciation to Jami Leibowitz and Biwu Yang for the worked out idea of “Global Partners in Education” and their contribution into the collaboration between our universities. She thanked tutors, students, PSLU officers for high professionalism and successes achieved in the project implementation, whishing meeting at the X International Conference on “Global Partners in Education” at University of East Carolina (USA) in 2017.
