PSU Joined the Scientific and Educational Theological Association
12.03.2020On an errand of Aleksandr Pavlovich Gorbunov, Rector of Pyatigorsk State University, Ibragim Dzhavparovich Ibragimov, Director of the Institute of Translatology and Multilingualism, Head of the Chair of Oriental Languages and Cultures, took part in the meeting of the Scientific and Educational Theological Association (SETA) Council, established by the leading institutes of the Russian Federation.
The meeting was chaired by Metropolitan Archbishop Ilarion of Volokolamsk with representatives of the President Administration, Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, Federal Education and Science Supervision Service, rectors of State and Religious educational facilities of Russia.
The meeting resulted in the decision of Pyatigorsk State University inclusion in the Association. PSU was awarded the certificate of SETA member at the ceremony. The meeting participants drew attention to the big role of PSU and the Institute of State-Confessional Relations of the university in the development of theological education in Russia.
PSU is the first state university in the Russian Federation to begin training students on the unique major of “State-Confessional Relations” in the field of Theology on both Orthodox and Islamic blocks of confessional disciplines. PSU is the center of linguistic and cultural diversity, a center of peacekeeping, which is a ground for the cooperation of state and public society, joining the representatives of different nationalities, ethnic groups, and religious confessions.
SETA was formed at the beginning of 2018 and it is open for educational facilities, spiritual schools of Russian Orthodox Church, religious institutions of culture forming religions, and unreligious state institutions, which are the part of Interreligious Council of Russia.
The principle condition is to implement educational programs on theology, which correspond to state-licensed and accreditation criteria, as well as the adoption of value system, which is laid at the basis of cooperative work by the Association founders. The system includes an understanding of theology as a space of creational cooperation of religious traditions, preservation of cultural memory of our country’s peoples, utilization of a moral and worldview resource of traditional religions of Russia in the field of education, sciences, social life, politics, law, and international relations.
