Director of Pushkin Institute at Hastings College (USA) visits PSU
Professor Robert Babcock, director of Pushkin Institute – Center of the Russian Language and Culture, formed in November at Hastings College (Nebraska, USA) is having an internship at the Summer Russian Language Camp at PSU this July.
A visit of Professor R. Babcock not only includes classes but also gives a possibility to get acquainted with our university, consider innovative projects of bilateral collaboration, which concern not only English and Russian linguistics but Russian history, intercultural communication, and broadening of student exchanges at a regular basis as well.
Professor R. Babcock was especially interested in visiting Pushkin Institute – Center of the Russian Language and Culture. A meeting with its director I.B. Fedotova and N.A. Orlova, Associate Professor at the Chair of Language Art and Pedagogic Technologies in Philological Education allowed exchanging the experience about activity organization, discussing of the direction and perspectives of a further interaction of both Centers in the promotion of the Russian language and education in the Russian language into international educational space.
While visiting the Higher School of Architecture and Design as a potential partner of School of Arts at Hastings College and meeting with its director O.A. Kovaliova and A.I. Gladskikh they discussed possibilities of the collaboration including exchanges of talented students for internships and practice in arts and crafts, joint exhibitions of the best students’ works. R. Babcock was also shown the works of the Higher School students: architecture projects, arts and crafts pieces, and design projects, sculpture compositions, graphic works.
Organizational issues of a joint program called “Global Mutual Understanding” which is to be launched in September 2018 were discussed. It will provide a regular communication between PSU and Hastings College students using Skype. This will be directed not only on the practice improvement of the English and Russian languages but also on the mutual culture, history, modern life learning as well as Russian and USA students perception of the global world.
