Exchange Education of PSU Students in Austrian Partner Institute
07.10.2019During the first semester of 2019/2020 academic year, IV year students of the Institute of Romance and German Languages, Informational and Humanitarian Technologies Vlada Filimontseva and Anna Maltseva undergo an exchange education at Institute of Applied Sciences in Sankt Pölten (Austria). The program of exchange education is implemented within the frameworks of the cooperation agreement between two partnering universities.
The students share their impressions of studying in partnering institute:
“No doubt every student of linguistics dream about visiting the country of the studied language. German scholars have a big choice, the German language is an official language not only in Germany but also in Austria, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein. You can also hear the German speech in Luxemburg and Belgium. Due to the partnering relations between Pyatigorsk State University and Sankt Pölten University we happened to be in Austria, one of the most picturesque countries of the world.
In spite of the fact that the Austrian educational system differs a little bit from the Russian system, we only needed a couple of days to adapt to it. All education is in German. Being an innovative and contemporary university, Fachhochschule St. Pölten offers a great choice of programs in “Мedien und Wirtschaft”, “Medien und Digitale Technologien”, “Informatik und Security”, “Bahntechnologie und Mobilität”, “Gesundheit” und “Soziales”. Our program is called “Marketing und Kommunikation”. It gives us an opportunity to improve our German, practice it in the field of intercultural communication and media, develop our skills of creative thinking. At classes, we often work in groups, share our ideas and experience, create projects and present them. We are interested in Spanish language classes in German, and we note a high qualification of English language lectors.
The life of Austrian students is very rich and diverse! Every day Sankt Pölten University organizes a lot of different events, webinars, meetings, and themed nights. There is a great choice of sports activities which give students an opportunity to relax after the tense academic day, meet with friends, and spend time cheerfully and productively.
The university organizes a rich cultural program for foreign students, which include sightseeing tours to Austrian cities, European countries trips, mountain hiking, outings, museums, exhibitions, theaters, and movies.
We are extremely happy to be a part of the international exchange and we thank our university, Associate Professor N.S. Shavkun, head of the Chair of Germany Studies and Intercultural Communication, Associate Professor N.V. Papka, director of the Center of German Language and Culture, Professor V.S. Mishin, head of the Department of International Relations and Educational Programs for the given opportunity and assistance in documents fulfillment. Immersion into the language environment, new contacts, and knowledge received will make a huge contribution to our education, and no doubt will help our further professional development. We will enjoy the following four months here, and after our return, we will be happy to share our priceless experience with our lectors, course mates, and friends.”
