Independent Life or Life of Dependence: 10 Myths and Truth about Drugs – Interatctive Lecture
05.10.2020On October 5, 2020, the Department of Formation of Social Competencies and Civil Education together with Peoples' Friendship University of Russia organized an interactive lecture called “Independent Life or Life of Dependence: 10 Myths and Truth about Drugs” for students of Pyatigorsk State University.
The event gathered more than 170 people. All participants kept social distancing and used personal protective gear.
Ekaterina Martusova, a mentor of the Youth Council of the Healthcare Department of Moscow, a lecturer at the Chair of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Psychotherapy at PFUR, was the speaker at the event. “The final stage of addiction is the first dose”, - said E. Martusova at the beginning of her performance.
This was a phrase that determined a dialogue between the expert and students. They discussed the problem situation and answered the lecturer’s questions. During the discussion, students drew a conclusion that family, happiness, and love are the constituents, which make people free and independent.
According to the World Healthcare Organization, the average age of drug addicts is between 16 and 18 years. Recent studies have shown an alarming trend of drug addiction youthification, therefore it is very important to discuss this problem with students.
The lecture is a part of a big complex of events, aimed at the prevention of non-medical use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic compounds among students. All the events are organized by Peoples' Friendship University of Russia as the instruction of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as it was reported by the university’s press-service.
